Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Account: your name, email address and a protected (hashed) password; optionally your country and birth date.
- Your case: the pathway, dates and places you enter, your receipt number, and the role of each person on the case.
- Content you add: files and photos (with their captions), scanned pages, draft form answers, quiz and interview-practice answers, notes, reminders and calendar entries. These can include sensitive information such as identity, financial, medical-exam or family documents — you choose what to add.
- Purchases: Apple’s transaction records for Spouseport Premium (we never see your payment card).
- Device: a push-notification token if you allow notifications, and basic technical logs (time, error, IP address) to keep the service secure.
How we use it
Only to provide Spouseport: to store your case, show it to the people on it, send the notifications you turned on, verify purchases, prevent abuse and give support. We don’t use your content for advertising and we don’t sell or rent personal information. Spouseport contains no third-party analytics or ad SDKs.
Who can see your information
- People on your case: your spouse, and preparers you invite (view-only). Photo captions you mark “Only me” are visible only to you.
- Our staff: a small number of administrators can open files to keep the service safe (for example, after a report) and to help you when you ask. Every such access is recorded in an audit log.
- Service providers that run our infrastructure on our behalf: [hosting provider], [email provider], Apple (purchases and push notifications). They may use the data only to provide their service to us.
- Authorities only when the law requires it; where allowed, we will tell you first.
Security
Files and sensitive text are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) on our own servers and sent over encrypted connections. Links to files expire. Sessions use short-lived tokens. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you of a breach as the law requires.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time: in the iOS app (Case & account → Account → Delete account), on the web dashboard (Account → Delete my account), or by emailing support@spouseport.com. Deleting your account removes your account and sign-in details, the files you uploaded and your private answers and notes. If your spouse stays on the case, the case’s shared form answers stay with them, because the petition is a joint one. When the last spouse leaves, the whole case and all its files are deleted. Records of staff access to files (our security audit log) are kept. Backups are erased within [N] days.
Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your information in the app, download your files, turn notifications on or off, and delete your account. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have further rights to access, correct, delete or port your data — contact us and we’ll respond within the time the law requires.
Children
Spouseport is meant for adults (18+) and is not directed at children.
Not legal advice
Spouseport is an organizing tool, not a law firm, and is not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency.
